The road was clear as I drove south on I-680 in my rented 4 cylinder Honda Accord. Not much power from a standing start but rolled along just fine at highway speeds. Thats when the hunger pangs hit. Probably cuz I skipped lunch to wander around the cars at the Blackhawk Museum earlier.
I slowed down a bit when I saw an IN-N-OUT Burger sign on the west side of the freeway. Only located in 7 southeastern states, IN-N-OUT is known for their Double-Double burgers, great fries, and thick milkshakes! They claim to have “always fresh, never frozen” ingredients. Yes, its fast-food and probably not the healthiest meal, but right then the thought of it made my mouth start salivating.
I hadn’t had an IN-N-OUT meal since moving out of California over 12 years ago. Getting an IN-N-OUT burger in Michigan is harder than it was to get Coors Beer east of the Mississippi in the 1970s. Some day I’ll blog about my Coors Beer road trip…might make a great movie.
Anyhow, I was headed to Pleasanton, and knew exactly where the next IN-N-OUT was located. I let the black Corvette pass me in the fast lane, feeling powerless in the trusty Honda Accord. Here’s a photo but I couldn’t let anything else distract me from my mission!
Pleasanton, for those not in the know, is 35 miles north of San Jose. That 35-mile drive takes 1 ½ hours during commute hours! Not sayin’ that’s why I moved, but it wasn’t fun and the drive wore out two of my cars commuting to the Silicon Valley for work. Traffic is always heavy in the Bay Area but today it was fairly easy. I made my way into the restaurant and enjoyed the camaraderie of standing in line to order and then to wait. Some things never change at IN-N-OUT!
After finishing the late lunch, I headed off to check out a local classic car sales consignment shop in town. On to the next Car Story!
