Cheers to all the cars I’ve known! Wheels with heart! A true love story!

Looking back now on how all of my cars were actually given to me as gifts from loved ones, kind of blows my mind! So many people loved me so much over the years that they gave me a car, is a pretty awesome thing to reflect and ponder on today! So thanks cuz!

Beginning with my first car story, a little VW Bug; (not a Beetle, huge distinction in my mind.) Purchased by Mom’s second husband of three; Bob Redlin; my first Stepfather and my first car; it was 1969.

My older sister Debbie taught me how to drive the Stick Shift! “It’s easy,” she said.  “Just like this; here’s 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, and here’s reverse!” OK! Off weeee Go! All over A2 Town, hills and all! Only glitch was, she was skipping 1st gear all together! Until someone riding with me noticed I was skipping 1st, I was doing exceptionally well without it!

From 1972 to several years later, I became a “rider” in my son’s father’s car! He had a few older cars that he kept running somehow, he was good at “wrenching” on cars! One was a Comet that often left a cloud of exhaust smoke behind us!

One was an old “woody” station wagon. But lest I digress. MY next car was a GOLDEN Caddie, gifted to me by my Aunt Joan. That was a slick old car for cruising to and from Washtenaw Community College with a toddler in tow! I remember how it glided along like a big boat! So I thought I’d be smart and trade it in for a smaller car.

I chose a tiny black Chevy Hatchback, which stalled on me anytime it got too wet in the rain! UGH! No wonder I can’t even remember the model of that one? I avoided all Chevy’s after that. Maybe I’ll take a moment here and see if Google can find that information for me? Found it! The Chevy Chevette! Here is a blue Chevette similar to mine.

Ok! On to my next car after that little zippity-dippity fling! (I thought this would be short, I haven’t had THAT many loves/cars; have I?) Enough of this drive down memory lane for today! Maybe one car/love story at a time will do cuz.

“Keep On Truckin!” Enjoy each and every moment behind the wheel!
